This is a bit late for the actual challenge date of end of Feb, but although the dress was finished I didn't have time to get this bit done. So here it is now.
I love blue, it's my favorite colour, so it wasn't too difficult to find something to fit this challenge and I wanted a new dress for dancing in. You know swirly skirt and all. The pattern was from EvaDress.com, one of the ones I had chosen for my prize when I won her dress making challenge last year. I really like her patterns and their fit.
I decided to just go for it rather than make up a muslin as it was fairly loose fitting anyway, and although I put a dart into the back shoulder seam, (front being gathered meant I just needed to gather that tighter to fit) as I know my shoulders come up small, the rest fitted like a dream.
I was really please with the way it turned out. so please I decided to try to make a miniature for one of my dolls, and was really please with the way that turned out too. So here's some photos and I'm off to think about the next challenge, 'Stash busting', and believe me, I have enough stash to do this challenge 100 times so I have no excuse for not getting it done.
The Challenge: Blue
Fabric: some rayon like stuff I got for £1 a meter at our rag market, so no idea what is really is.
Pattern: Eva Dress pattern
Year: 1938
Notions: zip, cotton and bias binding for the hem.
How historically accurate is it? well the zip wasn't metal, and i'm not sure about the material content, but the rest is all good so 8/10
Hours to complete: about 4
First worn: 7th March '15 for a dance (Balboa) 'thing'
